Product hopping. We’ve all done it. We watch a commercial or hear from a friend about the latest X skincare product, and we go out and buy it. We try it out, and before we are even half-way through the product, another one comes along that promises to be the better that is always commercially advertised but seldomly achieved. Regardless, we entrust our faith to the new product, exiling its predecessor to the back of our drawers, making false promises to ourselves that we’ll go back to it when we’ve run out of the new one. It’s a vicious cycle that has finally come to an end for me. Well, at least as far as my moisturizer goes. I have found what the soul of my skin has yearned for—my perfect moisturizer. Ladies, I give you the Glow Recipe, Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream.
My skin type
In case I haven’t told y’all before, my skin is flakier than a buttermilk biscuits. No, I’m not kidding. It is also sensitive and is prone to redness–joy. But my main issue is that my skin is DRY! So dry that I had been Goldilocks hunting for the past several years for the perfect moisturizer with no luck. Some were too thick, some broke me out, but this one is just right. Now before I guide you through this review, we must establish some ground rules. First, I am not a skincare expert. Second, not every product is for every person. Third, this is solely to share my experience with you in hopes that it may help you discover a product that you might like. Fourth, this is not a sponsored post. Lastly, take this all with a grain of salt because while this worked for me, it might not be what your skin needs. Now that we got that settled, let’s do this.
Time to gush
As I said before, this moisturizer is the perfect porridge to my Goldilocks… just right. What sets this product apart from the rest for me are two things: texture and concerns. Texture being the consistency, absorption, and wear of the product, and concerns being the types of skin issues it targets. This product hits everything I’ve looked for in both categories for me, making it the MVP out of all the other competitors that have rivaled it.
Getting a feel for it
This moisturizer has a unique texture. It’s not precisely whipped and not a serum either. It has a sort of bounce to it that you’ve gotta feel for yourself. It’s not sticky, not tacky, and it absorbed right into my skin after I applied it. This product lays beautifully under makeup and would be able to put “works well in a team setting” on its resume if it had one. It’s not too thick to wear in the summer, but not too thin to wear in the winter either. It also never made my pores feel like they couldn’t breathe, which is something I can’t stand. I can honestly tell you that for a lady with dry skin, this product surprised me. I was so certain that its lightweight texture would not be enough to quench the thirst of my pores, but I was wrong. This hydrating formula works for my skin in a way that no other product ever has, and I couldn’t be happier with it.
What do you want?
Do you remember this scene in The Notebook, where Noah is asking Allie what she wants, and she tells him that it isn’t that simple? Well, that was the lovely ladies and me at Sephora every time I went in search of the next moisturizing contender. I wanted everything: hydration, no SPF, wearable day and night, redness reduction, suitable for sensitive skin, lightweight, and preferably clean. This product checked off my entire list and actually delivered on its promises. I had tried other moisturizers that claimed to be good for sensitive skin that broke me out. I tried some that purported to specialize in redness reduction that did absolutely nothing to minimize the flush on my checks. This product is a “what you see in the description is what you get,” or at least it was for me. I finally found a moisturizer that kept its word and did exactly what it said it would. I love it so much that I am currently about to finish my second jar, which is a first for me.
Final thoughts
Overall, I love this darling little jar of joy. The sunny yellow color is bright and cheery, and the smell of banana makes me dream of summertime barbecues and banana pudding. This little baby will set you back $39.00 for 1.69/50 mL of product. I checked my Sephora account and the last time I purchased a jar was on December 5, 2020, using it day and night, so this product should last you a good while. I can’t tell you how relieved I am to have met my skincare match after many years of searching. If you’re still looking for your skincare soul mate and are interested in taking this product for a whirl, I’ll leave the links here: Glow Recipe and Sephora. I am head over heels for the Banana Soufflé Moisture Cream, and I can’t wait to hear if you love it too.
With love from the Lonestar,
Isabella
